Thoughts from
Rev. Dr. Tassie Green,
Interim Senior Pastor

When Jesus and his disciples gathered for the Passover meal the evening before Good Friday, he sought to prepare them for what was to come. The food they ate was simple and traditional, but he used it as a powerful object lesson.

  • He called upon them to humble themselves… He washed their feet. (John 13)
  • He prophesied what was going to come… He warned them of future failures. (Luke 22)
  • He gave them a way to remember what he had taught them… He shared the bread and wine as a means of communion with him. (Matthew 26)
On Maundy Thursday, April 17, you are invited to gather with other brothers and sisters for a powerful time of fellowship, sharing of a meal, worship and communion in the First Pres Dining Room. Dinner, which is provided free of charge, will transition into what we expect will be a moving and encouraging time of remembrance of the love Jesus had for his disciples, and for us.
I want to encourage you all to come and take part in this special event. For those who can’t, we will also stream it online at https://live.firstpresevanston.org but I can’t stress enough how strongly I believe this will be a time best experienced in person. This event is also a fundraiser for the FPCE Youth ministry (no donation is required, but love offerings will be solicited), and a number of our youths will be helping prepare and serve the meal.
I am looking forward to Palm Sunday and the Holy Week activities that follow. All of them are listed at https://evanstoneaster.org.
On the journey with you,
Pastor Tassie
