Serving Others

Reaching OUT Beyond Our Walls

We look to the example of Jesus, who blessed those he encountered, regardless of status, race, ethnicity, or religious creed.

‘Blessed that we might bless’

As an institutional citizen of Evanston, First Pres ministers in a portion of Chicagoland that represents a gradient between great wealth and genuine poverty. The result has been a history of service of the church to those who Jesus described as “the least of these.”

Some of our outreach activities

Souper Saturday Food Kitchen – We serve lunch and provide some additional food to our homeless and underprivileged neighbors each Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The COVID pandemic moved our distribution outdoors, but we continue to serve are large contingent each week.

Overnight Shelter – In coordination with Connections for the Homeless, First Pres provides overnight shelter services for men and women for a series of weeks each winter, where those without a place to sleep can come and get out of the cold. FPCE volunteers and staff serve together making sure guests are safe, provided secure sleeping areas, and warm, clean bedding.
