Lent at First Pres Evanston

This series, inspired by the Narrative Lectionary (Year 3), allows the Gospel of Luke to guide us through Lent. Beginning with Jesus setting his face toward Jerusalem (Luke 9:51), the series flows through several familiar stories—the Good Samaritan, Mary and Martha, the fruitless fig tree, the Lost Sheep, Zacchaeus, and more. Many of these stories are well-known in both sacred and secular imagination, carrying cultural relevance and lore. For example, have you ever identified yourself as either a “Mary” or a “Martha?” The “Good Samaritan” title alone could reference a hospital, a charitable organization, a type of law, or a good deed. Perhaps you grew up singing “Zacchaeus was a wee little man” in Sunday School. So many of these scriptures hold significance in pop culture, church history, politics, and everything in between.

Maundy Thursday Meal and Worship Service
Our April 17 Maundy Thursday remembrance will include a time of fellowship and good food, with the FPCE Youth serving a meal as a free-will offering fundraiser. All are welcome, and the meal, served at 6 p.m., is free.
After the meal, we will remain in the Dining Room for a service of communion in commemoration of the Last Supper served by Jesus to his disciples.
The service will include Taizé worship songs, a brief homily, and opportunity for shared reflection.

We want you to join our Evanston family
We hold membership classes every few months for those interested in exploring what it means to be a member of First Presbyterian Church of Evanston. Those who attend are under no obligation to join… It’s just a great way for anyone to learn who we are, where God has brought us from, and what a greater engagement with our church might look like.
