Congratulations to the First Pres Building Committee and Building Staff on their recently completed project to install an assistive outdoor lift which is accessible via the School for Little Children entry courtyard.

The project, which involved coordination with and approval from multiple municipal and state agencies, solves the problem of providing access

to Walker Chapel and other areas of the south end of the FPCE building. The lift became necessary after our old stairway lift stopped working in 2023 and could not be repaired.

FPCE Facilities Manager Andy Wallgren then spent months researching different options to ensure what was chosen would meet the needs of our congregation and any visitors while also complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act statutes. Work on the location of the lift began in March of this year and was completed last month with the installation of a security access pad. The new lift can hold someone in virtually any kind of self-propelled or motorized wheelchair along with a family member or approved individual to accompany them.

It allows them to enter into the building on the main floor of SLC by way of a hallway and then make their way over to Walker Chapel via the SLC office.

Those who need to use the lift can contact the FPCE front desk by phone or come to the front desk in person to seek assistance. A locked gate has been installed to keep unauthorized individuals from accessing it.
