Overview: The Flower and Arts Assistant helps First Presbyterian Evanston in accomplishing its mission: To know Christ and to grow in him as we serve and make disciples in Evanston, the Chicago area, and the world.
The Flower and Arts Assistant helps our worship services and other events reflect the goodness of God in all his creative glory. The assistant is called upon, occasionally, to ensure flowers or other appropriate works of art or decoration are installed on the Chancel and/or around the Sanctuary or Chapel as part of a worship service, celebration, or other special gathering.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to requests by the Director of Worship or other members of the pastoral and program staff for contributions to a worship service or other activity.
- Discuss possible contributions with staff and other volunteers what might be appropriate and help determine costs and scheduling of the installations.
- Respond in a timely fashion when asked about your availability for a particular project or event.
Relationships, Team Composition:
The Flower and Arts Assistant reports to the Director of Worship.
Time Commitment: As needed, subject to availability
- Includes phone and in-person meetings, preparation time and, potentially, presentation of the work or works at a worship service, community or church event.
Special Talents, Skills Preferred: Experience and/or interest in floral decoration, set design, sewing, and/or construction. A portfolio of previous creative pieces is helpful but not required.
Resources, Training Provided: Compensation for the materials or time needed to properly create and execute a particular installation may or may not be provided, as determined on a case-by-case basis. Safety education, CPR offered annually.
