December 7 – Lessons & Carols
Join us for one of First Pres Evanston’s most cherished traditions! Our Lessons & Carols service weaves together Scripture readings and beloved Advent hymns, creating a beautiful time of worship and reflection as we prepare for Christ’s coming.

This year’s message is drawn from Matthew 11:1–11, “When We’re Running Out of Hope, God Is at Work.”

We’ll also light the second Advent candle, continuing our journey toward Christmas.

Special Musical Offering:

The Chancel Choir will share Bach’s complete Advent Cantata 140 “Wake, get up!” and will be joined by strings and oboes from Music of the Baroque and Apollo’s Fire. Cantata 140 contains the much-loved wedding music “Sleepers, Wake!” and combines the story of Jesus’ parable of the Ten Wise Bridesmaids waiting for the groom’s arrival, a picture of the Advent season, with ardent duets between Christ and the Soul.
