About Babette’s Feast
Rated G and suitable for all ages, Babette’s Feast is a warm and thought-provoking story set in a remote Danish village during the 1870s.
Two elderly sisters, devoted to the Christian faith and the legacy of their father, a beloved pastor, offer refuge to Babette, a French woman fleeing the Franco-Prussian War. Babette gratefully serves as their housekeeper for fourteen years without pay. When she unexpectedly wins a large lottery prize, she chooses to honor the centennial of the sisters’ father’s birth by preparing an extraordinary French feast for the remaining members of the congregation.
As exotic ingredients begin arriving from France, the simple villagers become suspicious that something improper may be underway. What follows is a moving story about grace, generosity, community, and the transforming power of hospitality.
The film is presented in Danish, French, and Swedish with English subtitles.
