When school lets out early, the fun continues at church! Half Day Hooray is a welcoming, faith-based afterschool program designed for elementary-aged kids on Evanston School District half days. It’s a safe and engaging space where children can spend the afternoon connecting with friends, participating in meaningful activities, and enjoying a positive environment rooted in Christian values.

Each Half Day Hooray includes a variety of age-appropriate experiences—spiritual, creative, and social—led by caring volunteers. While the schedule may vary, the focus remains the same: creating a joyful space where kids feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Whether you’re looking for a place for your child to go after school or simply want them to be part of a fun and uplifting community, Half Day Hooray is open to all.

Afternoon Schedule

12:30–1 p.m. | Lunch (30 min)
Children enjoy a kid-friendly, allergen-conscious meal together. Options rotate and may include pasta, pizza, chicken nuggets, and more.

1:05–1:35 p.m. | Service Project (30 min)
Kids work together to assemble care packages for people in need. Projects are simple, hands-on, and designed to help children connect service with faith.

1:40–2:10 p.m. | Music (30 min)
Led by our Choir Director, kids sing age-appropriate songs and explore music in a joyful way. They’ll also begin preparing for special performances like the Christmas Pageant.

2:15–2:45 p.m. | Bible Study (30 min)
An interactive time of storytelling, activities, and prayer. Kids are encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discover how the Bible connects to their lives.

2:50–3:20 p.m. | Craft Time (30 min)
Kids make art projects connected to the theme. Crafts encourage imagination, hands-on learning, and a sense of accomplishment.

3:25–4 p.m. | Gym Time (35 min)
Active play in the gym with fun, inclusive games. Activities change each week and give kids a chance to build teamwork, get moving, and have fun.

4 p.m. | Dismissal

Dismissal will take place in the gym—please pick up your child there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it open to everyone?
Yes! All children are welcome. The program teaches morals and values through lighthearted Bible-based lessons using the VeggieTales curriculum.

What ages is it for?
The program is designed for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Middle schoolers are welcome to volunteer and assist with activities such as gym time, music, crafts, and lunch service.

Does it cost anything?
The program is completely free for the remainder of 2025. In 2026 a small fee may be introduced depending on volunteer availability and parent interest.

Can you accommodate allergies?
We do our best to consider dietary needs, but we may not be able to accommodate all allergies. Parents are encouraged to pack a lunch for children with specific dietary restrictions to ensure their safety and comfort.
