Youth

ON THE ROAD TO ADULTHOOD!

TEACHING TEENS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SHINING LIGHTS TO THE WORLD AROUND THEM

Today’s youth have experienced life in a radically different way than previous generations, and yet our God never changes in offering everything they need to walk in faith with Jesus Christ.

At First Pres, we offer our teens meaningful, sometimes challenging  opportunities to live in faith. At the same time, we give them honest, Biblical information about what life in the church looks like so they can choose to believe (or not) from a place of informed wisdom.

Join us in-person in the sanctuary. All age children are welcome in worship! We have rocking chairs in the back of the sanctuary and even more open space in the back for coloring, reading, or crawling. We also have a newly renovated family lounge area for nursing, changing diapers, or having some quiet time.

Kids Corner. We have set-up a special area in the back of the sanctuary with books, coloring and activity pages, worship journals, and other activities to help kids engage in worship.

Our Sunday morning classes for children and youth take place after our 9:30 a.m. worship services. We divide into groups based on age and/or school grades.

K-4th Grade
5th – 7th Grade
8th – 12th Grade
Youth Group (grades 8-12) meets Sunday afternoons from 4-6 p.m.

Yes. While we do not recommend parents demand church attendance on Sunday mornings, we do suggest they encourage it. While we recognize many activities can seek to pull teenagers away on Sunday mornings, we believe setting the example of regular church attendance is vital if they are going to remain committed to their faith as adults.

Youth Group meets Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. in the church and usually involves fun games or activities, teaching time, and prayer time. We do our best to avoid scheduling meeting when they conflict with school or other activities. Youth Group is open to those in grades 8 through 12. All staff and volunteers are required to pass appropriate background checks.

Our regular events include:

  • Monthly Young Family Small Group
  • Winter Retreat
  • Youth Sunday Worship Service
  • Local service activities
  • Youth Group Outings
  • Summer Mission Trip
  • Vacation Bible School volunteer opportunities
  • All-Church End-of-Summer Picnic
  • Gingerbread House Decorating Party
  • Hand Bell Choir
  • Christmas Eve Family Worship Service
